The HTC Vive headset helped create the virtual reality as it is known today. Vive was the first head of consumers to bring with motion controllers, and the idea that virtual reality was about the physics of motion, rather than just in-depth video views, was validated. Now, three years after the release of Vive, HTC is ready to move forward. Replacing the Vive Vendor with a headset called the Vive Cosmos, the release began last week. The original Vive is part of a creative product, however, and the Cosmos is playing a board game on the playground.
The $ 699 Vive el Cosmos is a great, head-to-head VR VR headset. (HTC said at the time the phone could run. But for now, you will need a smart device.) $ 399 Oculus Rift S and $ 999 Award Winner. Like the App, the Cosmos screen quality is good with the appearance of the hardware design. But like the Rift S, it’s a drain on outdoor enthusiasts for common cameras. When it comes to the Oculus Touch controller design it has become increasingly sophisticated, rather than the remote Vive remote or the futuristic Controller Index indicator.
In principle, the Cosmos will be able to appeal to people who need the most expensive equipment. We can also provide a plan for the next HTC focused on the music business, this is the Vive Pro for 2018. But I have to avoid burying the leader: my own Vive Cosmos experience it wasn’t really fun. While the principal is working hard, I am struggling with his hardware and software in every way, from the interface to some of the problems that follow. It looks like HTC has been working hard to improve this experience, so I’m not writing about it outside of the World. I was just hoping to get more from one of the most popular VR players.
The Cosmos has a special shape for the ears. Its body is blue and its circular crystal, ignoring the VR industry’s love of the little black-and-white. Two large square cameras will be placed in the front and center, and four more in the sides, as the HTC 310-degree marker is called. The entire screen will be removed, and HTC claims to be replacing the plate with side panels, starting with one that supports the old Vive headlight-based flashlight. For convenience, you can change the screen such as the motorcycle helmet on the visor, clean your viewing area, without removing the ears.
Cosmos has a screen of 2880 x 1700 pixels or 1440 x 1700 pixels for each eye. The resolution is significantly higher than that of the 2880 x 1600 Valve Index display with a jump beyond the S resolution at 2560 x 1440 pixels. The base of the view is about 110 degrees, which is slightly lower than the Point, but is standard for other VR headsets. For most consumers, the right credit is not an issue – just remember that the glasses on the header are more than just the Note, but the “door” screen significantly reduced HTC’s first generation Vive. .
HTC has recently updated the native-bone-based Live design. Cosmos ships and earbuds, it would be better for me to advise the speakers used by the Valve and Oculus. It doesn’t sound like a Famous Sound Award, but it doesn’t resonate with everyone around me. (Like most earbuds, you can also use your own ears.) The original Vive has a clunky Velcro strap, but the Cosmos has a “halo” plastic design similar to the Rift S, or the Sony PlayStation VR. There is a button at the bottom that changes the relative distance, but the important thing is that you focus on the head by adjusting the way it sits on your head.
The Internal Review is a nice feature that I was happy to see using HTC because it is faster, easier, and less stressful for the VR installation process. Instead of hanging light bulbs around the room, simply insert the headset into a small slot from the box, attach the DisplayPorts and USB cables from your computer, and plug the device into the power supply. Surveillance cameras on your environment will be used as anchors. They know the motion controllers by following a special light model, namely, the Cosmos as if I had one of the tattoos of the dying ’90s people.
When inspected, it worked well. Building Construction This is one of the biggest stress tests for VR operators, but Cosmos does. The response to the Quest and the Rift S. seems simple. So, for the most part, my view of the world is a little judgmental or a bit of a flood, just like some versions of the phone call inside.
But the system is flawed. Sometimes the head of the Cosmos disappears when I reach for something on the face of the earth, so that the universe does not settle. Most internal systems can’t “see” the controllers if they are still attached to their screens and the Cosmos is no different. The Cosmos took a long time to heal, however. My virtual hands may hold for a few seconds, which is a big problem in speed games.
The Cosmos often finds themselves in a monitored space due to the weakness of the lamp. However, these methods are “my living room at noon and a rooftop lamp,” so I’m not sure how I can improve. HTC said this might be wrong with my ears, if at all possible. However others reviewer They have also mentioned the reasons for clarity and purpose. HTC released an update to improve the low light performance, and it looks like my Cosmos is having a good time running. Still, the truth is not entirely true, especially because of the fast rotating system.
In addition to the Cosmos’ problem solving, the system is packed with little annoying stuff. HTC first Vive built entirely on the base of the SteamVR Valve. HTC has later announced its independence, creating a different ecosystem known as Viveport. Two types of Cosmos people. It uses a Viveport interface, but still runs on SteamVR technology, and you can install SteamVR games through the header of the Viveport portal.
This compatibility looks good, but in practice, it is embarrassing and inconvenient. The Cosmos setup needs to be integrated and rotated between two different components, and after installation, there are two different control panels on the desktop. And the Viveport connection is not an upgrade for SteamVR. Its “Lens” pop-up list is a star of inaccurate and unreliable signals, and is confusing as it has a list of applications and some configuration options.
Cosmos controllers are larger and heavier than the Oculus Touch, and require twice as much AA battery, twice for each controller. They are carefully crafted, with button-down buttons and a zip-drop button on each case. But it is useless and a broom. I can’t turn the drivers around Beat Saber without punishing holding the pieces, when I was so fast, the insect would have trouble pulling them out. While the hackers don’t hurt anything, I still don’t like to use it for them because most creators don’t make Cosmos special effects.
While low-cut earbuds are meant to be a comforting recipe, as are the Cosmos, I had trouble finding a position that would not hurt my forehead and the face would not start at a dark angle. The hardware isn’t very comfortable, but it’s a pity that the HTC Vive Luxury Audio Strap didn’t get much more power, a comfortable upgrade binding from the original Vive.
These are additional facts, and if the Cosmos was released two years ago, I would highly recommend it. But Oculus and Valve have completed mature VR software websites with simple features and powerful social features. (HTC is preparing to add friend lists and other social features to Viveport.) Cosmos is not one of these versions, and it is not the least of them. Good reason to buy Cosmos? Good argument from HTC, who loves hardware upgrade kits. The Legend of Zelda is a place for adding mods, but its goal is to allow people to create custom tools. Meanwhile, HTC has updated the original Vive with another add-on, an eye-tracking system, a wireless monitor, and a disk scanner to make controllers easier to create. If you stick with the Cosmos, you will enjoy some of the features that make it possible to buy a new headset if it does not.
The Vive wireless machine is similar to Cosmos-compatible, and the company says we will see exciting custom models in the future, although some details have been revealed. On the other hand, these improvements will come from the World great more expensive. A wireless connection, for example, can cost up to $ 300. And some things, like the screen itself, cannot be updated.
We are nearing the end of the VR equipment revolution, and the next big generation of virtual reality technology will look like another month. If HTC throws the Vive the Cosmos to pay for and improve performance, it’s also a good time to hand it over.
